The Solar Velomobile
This is the velomobile with a solar-powered motor, enabling jaunts to be powered by the sun or the rider’s pedaling power. A solar panel built-into the roof powers the 600-watt electric motor for up to 45 miles on a single charge or 100 miles when combined with pedaling. The velomobile travels up to 20 mph when propelled by just the motor or up to 30 mph in pedal-assist mode, thanks to a continuously variable transmission that allows smooth, natural pedaling synchronized with the motor.
The velomobile’s aircraft-grade aluminum frame, stainless steel hardware, and durable carbon fiber body withstand exposure to rain and sun. Its LED headlights, brake lights, and turn signals provide clear alerts to other cyclists and automobiles while navigating streets or bike trails. The handle bar provides familiar bicycle steering, handlebar levers control the front and rear disc brakes, and the seat adjusts to accommodate riders between 5′ and 6′ 9″ tall. Motor recharges in 7 hours via sunlight or 2 1/2 hours via the included AC power adapter.
